Little Loomhouse - Old Website Design
In 2009, the Little Loomhouse, a non-profit organization managing a historic landmark in Louisville, needed a new website to replace their existing one. The existing website exhibited a visual design that didn’t seem to reflect the mission of the organization. It also wasn’t designed to be easily changeable by the website owners. Last, the old website just didn’t contain the latest and most complete information about the landmark property. To the right, you can see what the website looked like before WebCommons did its magic.
In addition to addressing issues with the old website, the website’s owners also wanted additional features, including an integrated blog, multiple image galleries, an events calendar, a contact form and a weather widget. WebCommons readily determined that this makeover was an excellent candidate for reimplementation using the WordPress platform. With WordPress, an open source blog publishing application, there was already available quality plugins for implementing all the new features, and with its built-in ability to produce non-blog informational pages, expanding the website’s content was a snap. Note that using a good number of already developed plugins reduced the overall work effort and thus the final cost (an approach WebCommons always strives for). Most of the development work on WebCommons’ part was developing the theme (including a new logo) and integrating all the content and plugins.
Following is what the finished product looks like as you can see for yourself at www.littleloomhouse.org:
